Vitiligo Ayurvedic Treatment
What is Vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a rare noncontagious skin condition where the cells responsible for pigmentation, called melanocytes, dissapear. This leads to patches of white skin spread across the body. The cause of vitiligo is unknown, but it is believed to be an autoimmune disorder that is genetic in origin.
The most common areas for the white patches to occur are around the eyes and mouth, wrists, groin, feet, and legs. While these depigmented areas are painless, they can be a source of embarrassment and emotional stress.
What does Ayurvedict Treatment Mean and How Can I Use It to Treat My Vitiligo?
Originating in ancient India, ayurveda is a form of alternative medicine that emphasizes the use of hebal treatments.
In ayurveda, vitiligo is known as kilaas or shwitra and is recognized as being more of a condition than a true disease.
The ayurvedic treatment most often prescribed for vitiligo is Bavachi (Psoralia Corylifolia). Bavachi is applied to the skin in the form of an oil or paste and then the affected areas are exposed to the sun. The initial solar exposure should be limited to a few minutes, with a gradually increasing duration. Bavachi should also be taken internally as a compliment to the topical application.
This is a long term treatment and you should see results anywhere from a few months to over a year.
